Facebook payment system will be launched this week
At the first stage the service will be available only in Facebook and Messenger and only for US residents. In the future, Facebook Pay will be introduced in other countries, but the exact dates that will take up this process are not called.
Facebook Pay supports cards of most payment systems and payments via PayPal.
“Facebook Pay will make it easier to make payments through our apps, to make purchases, make donations and send money to each other,” Facebook said.
The company says the service is unrelated to Libra digital currency and Calibra online wallet, which were announced in June. Since then, the project has been abandoned by all major U.S. payment partners, including Visa, Mastercard and PayPal. In particular, Mastercard explained its decision by Libra’s failure to comply with basic payment regulations.
Earlier in November, Kevin Vale, Vice President, Calibra Product, said that the mass adoption of Libra would take decades.
